Sweet and caring, Mariah is a natural leader among her peers. She has a shy and quiet nature when first meeting people, but is talkative and full of personality once she comes out of her shell. Mariah enjoys keeping busy and is involved in a variety of activities. Her talents include playing sports, dancing and writing. Sixteen year old Mariah is an African American teen who excels at basketball and shows her creativity through writing and editing for Teen Voices magazine and participating in an Arts Incentive program. Her social worker says Mariah has a lot of potential and is just waiting to blossom in a family of her own. At home, she very much enjoys cooking and helping out with the household chores. Mariah also loves to spend time listening to music while around the house or just about anywhere. At school, Mariah receives special education services and remains on target academically. She follows household rules, and when needed, receives redirection well. Mariah has made significant progress with her emotional and behavioral needs. She is insightful about her past and takes advantage of the supports in her life. Legally free for adoption, Mariah remains eager and hopeful about finding an adoptive family. She will do best in a single female or two-parent home where she has positive role models. She would benefit from being in an energetic family where she could experience life as a “normal teenager.” She also says she is willing to pitch in with family responsibilities.
