My friends call me “Shak.”

Shakowna is a beautiful ten and a half year old girl whose smile lights up the room. She has an incredibly positive attitude and is willing to try new things. Shakowna is naturally creative, and enjoys a variety of activities including singing, dancing, acting and visual arts. She is extremely good at seeing a dance move once and being able to learn it. Shakowna works hard and doesn’t like to quit until she gets something right. At school, she does well academically. However, math can be challenging for Shakowna, as can reading when she thinks the story is “boring.” Shakowna gets along well with her foster family where she is a wonderful “big sister” to her little foster brothers. She also has a close relationship with her younger biological brother who she visits with regularly. Shakowna is a high energy, strong willed child who hopes to find a forever family who will provide her with consistency, structure and love. Born of African American heritage, Shakowna would love to have a family who looks like her or shares her cultural background. However, all families who could provide her with the love and nurturance that she needs will be considered. Shakowna is legally free for adoption.
