MARE Hosted Events

Throughout the year, MARE hosts events statewide to connect and support social workers, waiting children and prospective adoptive families. Please subscribe to our events newsletter to be notified of upcoming opportunities as they are scheduled.

Adoption Matching Events – These casual, interactive mixers provide families the opportunity to learn more about foster care adoption, meet waiting children and network with social workers. Some events are open to families at any stage of considering adoption, while others are limited to families with an approved homestudy who are ready to meet waiting children. Some events are planned for specific populations of waiting children (such as teens, children with special needs, or siblings) or specific populations of families (LGBT families, families of color, or single parents.) Family Support Events – Through trainings, webinars, panels and peer to peer support, prospective adoptive families at any stage in the process can continue to build their knowledge and network of support.

Fundraising Events – Be a part of bringing a child or teen home to their adoptive family by participating on one of MARE’s fundraising and community building events.

Walk/Run for Adoption


Join us for the VIRTUAL 11th Annual Jordan’s Furniture Walk/Run for Adoption! 
This themed 5K raises money for the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE), a nonprofit that finds adoptive homes for children in foster care.

Given the need for social distancing and the uncertainty of this pandemic, we are holding the 11th Annual Jordan's Furniture Walk/Run for Adoption as a VIRTUAL EVENT.

Join us, wherever you are, whenever you can, to walk and run for adoption the week leading up to May 17th! Get registered and get more information at

How will it work?

  1. Get registered.
    Registration remains the same. Click on the registration link above. Be sure to create or join a team!

  2. Fundraise and raise awareness.
    Use social media, email, photos, and videos to share how and why you are walking/running for adoption, encourage others to give and/or participate and help us reach our goal of raising $110,000 for children in foster care. 

  3. Walk or Run your 5k.
    Complete your walk/run the week of May 11th-17th. You can be on a treadmill, on a trail, or in your neighborhood. This is your opportunity to be creative and to participate from anywhere you live! 

  4. Submit photos and videos.
    Send us photos and videos that show off your walk/run adventures. We will share them with our online community.

  5. Win prizes.
    This year's raffle will be available online and you will be able to buy tickets until the drawing on May 17th. 

Just because we can't have a live event, doesn't mean we can't all be in this together and be a part of something great! Children in foster care waiting for a permanent family need us now, more than ever, and we know this community can rise to the challenge.

Registration for all participants is $35.
A discounted registration fee of $15 is available for children 3 –12 and social workers.

**Due to the switch to a virtual event and the added cost of distributing t-shirts: after Friday, March 27th individual registrants raising more than $500 and teams raising more than $1,000 will receive commemorative t-shirts.
