Introduction
Adam is a sweet, lovable, and kind boy and enjoys being around people he feels connected to. He is affectionate, caring, and brings warmth and joy to those in his circle. Adam is tech-savvy and enjoys age-appropriate musicals, watching YouTube. He enjoys playing outside barefoot, watching cars, and taking things apart to explore how they work before putting them back together. He thrives with predictable routines and benefits from a structured, consistent schedule that helps him feel safe and confident. He is amusing, well-adjusted, and brings a joyful presence to those around him. Adam would do best in a patient, nurturing home that is willing to take the time to build trust and support his unique needs.
Adam is a nonverbal student who effectively communicates using a speech-generating device but continues to make progress with the support of speech and language services. He attends public school and has an IEP that provides one-to-one support throughout the school day. Adam enjoys his school environment and does especially well in a smaller classroom alongside peers at his grade level. He gets along well with classmates, demonstrates strong academic skills, and continues to make progress with the support of speech and language services.
Adam is placed in a residential program that supports his needs. His caretakers describe him as a natural leader who is always eager to help both peers and adults, often offering a helping hand whenever he can. He is consistently helpful to program staff and is often seen supporting his peers as well. Adam has not had many supportive visitors in the past; however, more recently he has been reconnected with his mother, his younger half-sibling, and his maternal aunt and her family, who will begin engaging in visits. These connections are new for Adam, and he will need time and support to adjust as these relationships continue to develop.
Adam will thrive with a patient, nurturing, and committed family of any constellation, with or without children in the home, who can offer a stable and structured environment supported by strong natural supports. Prospective families should have experience managing educational services and supporting a youth transitioning from a residential setting and be willing to collaborate with service providers to promote consistency and continuity of care. As previously stated, interested families should be open to maintaining appropriate connections with his birth family.
