Introduction
Brendan and Aiden are athletic and well-rounded brothers in need of permanency. Brendan, big bro, can be introverted at first but once you get to know him will discover how intelligent, kind, and caring he can be. He is often the mature one in his peer group and is an example of confident leadership, avoiding and mediating conflict which is uncommon for his age. He is known for his resilience and determination even in extreme circumstances, not allowing life’s situations to get in his way. Like many teenagers, Brendan enjoys video games but is also active and into sports, specifically basketball. He plays on a team where he demonstrates consistency, dedication, and growth. Brendan also cherishes the time he spends with his friends and trying new activities.
Aiden, little bro, is described as strong and is known to come off as the “cool kid.” He is demonstrating a need to become more independent and assume more personal responsibilities. Aiden does have a sweet and nurturing side which is reserved for close loved ones. Like his big brother and his peers, Aiden enjoys video games and basketball and is continuously working on development and growth. He wants to play professionally for a team. While Aiden may not show it initially, he does desire attention from nurturing and loving care providers who are patient and can be strong guides for him. He enjoys spending time with his friends and going out to eat.
In school, Brendan is thriving academically and participates in an academic leadership program. He also utilizes the supports provided by school counseling. Brendan has formed strong friendships and addresses social conflict efficiently and effectively. He is extremely engaged in basketball, spending a great deal of time with his school basketball team whether outside of school practicing, working out, or watching games to be able to improve upon his skills. He has formed a strong bond with his coach and teammates.
Aiden is also doing well in school and has formed positive peer relationships. He has the tendency to keep to himself but is usually able to progress and thrive with strong adult connections to guide and redirect him as needed. Like his brother, Aiden belongs to his school’s basketball team which has strengthened his confidence and created strong friendships and community connections. Aiden is enrolled in an afterschool program at a local community center where he also plays basketball with his peers and receives other supports to address his emotional needs which has inspired him to work on self-improvement.
Brendan and Aiden live together with a foster family who they have developed a strong bond with. Their foster family has been a safe space to share their feelings. Brendan and Aiden both have demonstrated significant growth in this placement, establishing their own routines. They belong to a large sibling group of seven (7) and they have a tightknit bond with their siblings, specifically their adult siblings.
Brendan and Aiden are looking for a caring and nurturing family of any constellation, with or without other children in the home. They are of African American descent and like all children, they would benefit from having pre-adoptive parents of the same racial and ethnic background. However, their social worker is open to all interested families able to meet their needs. Families of different racial and ethnic backgrounds need to be committed to providing appropriate ethnic and cultural role models and information about their birth culture which includes discussing racism and discrimination. They would benefit from being with a family open to supporting the maintenance of their family connection which includes monthly/bimonthly visits with their siblings and twice a year visits with their birthmother.
