Introduction

Josue, who affectionately goes by Jojo is a polite, respectful, and soft-spoken boy. He is initially quiet when first meeting others, however, once comfortable, he is engaging, inquisitive, and talkative. Josue is an old soul valuing clarity in situations, consistently asking questions to be informed and included. He communicates his emotions openly and turns to trusted adults for support when necessary. When he is at a loss for words, he displays strong nonverbal communication skills, including maintaining eye contact with trusted staff to express discomfort or indicate a need for support. Jojo has strong strengths in expressing and processing his emotions in the moment.

Jojo enjoys a variety of activities, including video games like Roblox and Minecraft. He is athletic and enjoys participating in sports, particularly basketball and soccer, and he’s preparing for a marathon. He loves to play the viola and enjoys building LEGO sets. Jojo benefits from engaging, interactive environments where he feels safe, supported, and understood.

In school, Jojo is actively involved in his education and shows a strong investment in his learning, especially when supported by structured routines and clear, consistent expectations. He performs well academically and benefits from ongoing support in developing peer relationships and social communication skills. With guidance, Jojo can continue to strengthen his ability to navigate social situations and build positive interactions with classmates.

Jojo currently lives in a group home after previously residing with his extended family, including his grandparents, adult relatives, and their children. He is adjusting to new routines and structure and benefits from clear expectations and consistency. Jojo is receptive to feedback and able to reflect when supported by trusted adults. He maintains positive relationships with his aunts and school staff, which provides him with stability and connection.

Jojo has expressed that he would like to be adopted and shares that he hopes to be in a “happy” home. He will thrive with a loving, dedicated, and structured family of any constellation with or without other children in the home. Interested families should be experienced in therapeutic parenting to address his needs, which may include collaborating with his providers.

Jojo is biracial, being of African American and Caucasian descent and needs a family firmly committed to providing appropriate ethnic and cultural role models and education regarding his culture which includes discussing racism and discrimination. Potential families should also be open to maintaining his relationship with his birth family, which includes contact and visits.
