TBRI Trainings

The Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) invites pre/adoptive and recently placed families to a series of Trauma Informed Parenting virtual trainings facilitated by Fostering Hope’s TBRI® practitioners. This is a small-group, practical training, and participants are asked to be available on camera throughout the session, if possible. This opportunity is intended for Massachusetts pre/adoptive families who have completed MAPP training or families recently placed.

About TBRI:

TBRI® is an evidence-based caregiving intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of children from hard places of abuse, neglect, and/or trauma. TBRI® empowers caregivers and professionals to create within their homes and practices cultures of felt-safety, trust, attachment, and, ultimately, hope and healing. The training will help attendees better understand the needs of children with trauma histories and consider some tools and strategies that maximize their potential for growth in our care. About the Facilitators:

Fostering Hope’s team of TBRI® Practitioner Trainers are passionate and dedicated foster and adoptive parents and/or professionals working directly with children who have experienced foster care. Fostering Hope TBRI® Practitioners have been formally trained by the Karen Purvis Institute of Child Development in Fort Worth, Texas and bring to every session a deep belief in the power of relational connection as a healing force. Drawing on both their professional training and personal experience, trainers first guide participants to a deeper understanding of trauma and its impact on young minds and bodies and then provide practical strategies for building trust, enhancing attachment, and effectively managing challenging behaviors in children who have experienced trauma or adversity. Each trainer speaks with honesty and authenticity as they continue to learn and apply these principles within their own homes and/or child welfare professions.

Cost:

These trainings are offered to Massachusetts Pre-adoptive and adoptive families through DCF or a contracted agency thanks to the generosity of MARE’s supporters (many of whom are families who have benefited from TBRI training). A suggested donation of $20 per family per session allows for us to continue to offer these valuable trainings. Registrations will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

I am an adoptive parent, returning to participate in the Weekend Family Connections program. Although I adopted my son seven years ago, I don't remember having access to a training like this. I think the last seven years would have been substantially different had I learned then what I learned in the course of these trainings. I am also part of MARE's Friend of the Family program, where I engage with families who are waiting to be matched or recently placed. I stress to each of them the importance of learning about trauma and ways they can best parent a child with trauma. Having easy and free access to these courses through MARE is perhaps one of the largest needs of new foster and adoptive parents. And not only new parents, parents like me who have been at it a while and still need support.
